PREMISE

"Six billion people on Earth when the infection hit. Strain 138 had a ninety-three percent kill rate, that's five point five billion people dead. Crashed and bled out. Dead. Less than one-percent immunity. That left sixty million healthy people. The other three hundred and sixty million... well, it was just a matter of time before they got infected. Two hundred and forty million of those people died horrible, painful deaths.

But then the virus mutated. And those other one hundred and twenty million? They turned into something even worse.

So face it. Everybody is dead. Every single person that you or I has ever known is dead!"

Strain 138 is a post-apocalyptic game set in the "Heroes" universe. WE ARE AU! Set in present day, 2009, our game takes place in an alternate universe ravaged by a deadly virus that has killed almost everyone on earth. Those with and without abilities alike - everyone has suffered at the hands of the Shanti virus. Not only has the virus killed billions of poeple, it has crippled what were once major cities and brought countries to a stand still. Similar to the future Peter Petrelli encountered when he went forward in time to 2008, our present is a time when the world is a glorified ghost town. Where martial law is in place and what is left of the human race is struggling to cope and just survive.

The majority of people in this new world have abilities - things that make them extraordinary. There are very few who are just your Average Joes - they are rare and touted as the Last of Their Kind as the world has been forced to acknowledge that those with abilities are the future. But even the evolved have suffered - many of them have lost their abilities once being infected with the Shanti virus.

And still, things have gotten worse in the past year. In late 2008 the virus mutated. Strain 138 took a turn for the nasty and those infected with the new virus became the monsters that nightmares are made of. Rage-filled with a cannibalistic nature and an aversion to sunlight, these devolved humans have torn through cities and left them bloody wastelands.

The world is a darker, scarier place than ever before. How will you survive?
